Since hurricanes Irma and Maria left a trail of devastation across the Caribbean, a number of celebrities have stepped up with donations and pledges of assistance.

Now, Major Lazer has joined the charity concert train. On October 16, Wynwood (Miami, Florida) will invite the super-producer trio, Walshy Fire, Jillionaire and Diplo, along with some of their friends, for ‘Relief Is The Mission’ a concert to aid Puerto Rico and the Caribbean islands affected by the recent hurricanes.

“It took us a little while. We weren’t sure if we were gonna do it, just because of the work of getting everyone on board. But once everyone’s schedules matched, it was super simple. Everybody was down, and everyone is very enthusiastic about it,” Walshy Fire told THE WEEKEND STAR, noting that other artistes are being invited to join.

So far, the billed acts for the event are Major Lazer, Tory Lanez, Machel Montano, Bad Bunny, and other special acts.

Earlier this month, BeyoncE collaborated with foreign artistes J Balvin (Colombian) and Willy William (French) on their song called Mi Gente. All BeyoncE’s proceeds from song streams and downloads were pledged to disaster relief charities for Puerto Rico, Mexico and the other countries in the Caribbean that were affected by the hurricanes.

This week, Mi Gente peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Closer to home, after announcing the collective hurricane relief efforts of the 11 companies he chairs, businessman Joe Bogdanovich also invited the participation of local entertainment players in the staging of ‘Reggae Sumfest Reloaded: The Benefit’ that is tentatively scheduled for November in Kingston, Jamaica.

“I consider myself an integral part of every single Caribbean island, so anything that happens to any island in any way, it’s affecting me. I don’t have to know anyone’s personal name or know them personally. It’s a way bigger thing than that,” Bogdanovich said.
