15 Reggae Collaborations With American Artists That Caught People Off Guard

1 point

For those who are unaware, there are several American musicians who collaborated with some of the best in Reggae music.  No joke, there are so many songs that date  back to the early days of Reggae music.  Check out this list of some of the ones we could find.

  1. 1 Beenie Man and Janet Jackson

Say what you must, we found this collaboration unexpected.  Who would have thought a Beenie Man would have teamed up with a member of the legendary Jackson family to make such a memorable single "Feel It Boy"

  2. 2 Buju Banton and John Legend - Memories

This collaboration was of Buju's 2020 Upside Down album.  Everyone on the team was excited about this one and for good reason.

  3. 3 Romain Virgo and Larry Gatlin - California

Most people did not know that Jamaicans love country music, so this collaboration was well received.

  4. 4 Elephant Man and Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz - Get Low Remix

Elephant Man is known for good dance songs and this was no exception.  This collaboration was felt throughout the dancehall for many years and is still a fan favorite around the world.

  5. 5 Damien Marley and Nas - Patience

Damien "Jr. Gong" Marley teamed up with Nas to give us a fantastic compilation of wicked tunes like "Count Your Blessing" and many more.  Trust me the entire album is ridiculously good.

  6. 6 Shaggy and Sting - Don't Make Me Wait

Shaggy has been making collaboration ever since he debuted back in the 90s.  This one was not expected but it did not disappoint.

  7. 7 Bounty Killer and Fugees

Bounty Killer the poor people governor team up with the hip hop group Fugees to give a unique combination of hip hop and opera.  It was funny listening to Wyclef singing in an opera voice.  Come on its classic.

  8. 8 Sean Paul and Beyonce - Baby Boy

At this point, Sean Paul is known for doing tons of collaborations with almost ever singer in every genre.  The boy is that good.  But his collab with Beyonce was one that caught us off guard.  What a song.

  9. 9 Koffee and John Legend - Don't Walk Away

Koffee is on the rise and so far her LP made it on Obama's playlist.  It was inevitable that she would end up working with John Legend who is a big Reggae fan.  It is good to see his Reggae Collabs are not just one offs.

  10. 10 Lady Saw and Gwen Stephan

Who would have thought this would even be possible, but it was one of the most odd mixtures that made sense once you hear the song.

  11. 11 Supercat and Sugar Ray - Fly

The godfather of 90s Dancehall made a comeback when he teamed up with the alternative rock group to drop this song.  I tuned into MTV to watch its debut and I was specifically proud to see Supercat returning but on a crossover song.

  12. 12 Shabba Ranks and Johnny Gill -

Bet you didn't know that the one and only "Me Man, Shabba" teamed up with the R&B legend back in the 90s.  That's right, it was one of those times when Dancehall blend with R&B and it was fantastic.

  13. 13 Vybz Kartel and Busta Rhymes -

Bet you didn't know that Busta Rhymes is a Jamaican.  Yep, the hip hop legend is from Jamaica and you can tell in his must.  Other than Reggae fans would have been shock to list to his collab with Vybz Kartel who is another profound legend in Dancehall.

  14. 14 Mavado and Nicki Minaj

So what do you get when you team up a Dancehall star and a highly regarded female hip hop star who originate from Trinidad.  That's right, Nicki is from Trinidad.  The two bust the place with this song and it was a slam bam.

  15. 15 Steflon Don and French Montana - Hurtin

Steflon is a wicked lyrcist that have a dangerous delivery, if you tink me a joke, check out her song Sixteen Shots.  I was expecting she would be dropping some sick bars in this one, but man was I surprise when she sang through it.
