The below is from the published article: What started out four years ago as a medium that one musical artiste used to promote his music, has become a music site that seeks to standardise the delivery of West Indian music content to fans worldwide.
FiWEH.com is the brainchild of Delroy James, a Jamaican artiste living in the United States.
“FiWEH.com is an online music service that’s dedicated to reggae and soca music,” he said. “What started as a project, used to promote my own music, became the source of promotion for artistes and labels”.
FiWEH.com was launched in May 2005 and has been supporting the careers of hundreds of reggae and soca artistes worldwide.
“Since our launch, we became a music service with a social network framework that allows fans and artistes to interact,” he added.
Several well known Jamaicans have already joined the site including artistes from Downsounds, Sasha, Dwight Pinkney, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel and Sizzla, revealed Andrew Chin, who represents the website in Jamaica. Chin describes the site as a combination of Myspace and YouTube and says it can only help struggling artistes in Jamaica benefit from their talent.
“Reggae is not growing the way it should, because only a pocket of people are making money and people are not hearing Jamaican music,” he said. “We want to try and change that.”
Chin, who handles the marketing side of the website in Jamaica, says people can visit the site to see the videos by an artiste as well as listen to their music. He wants as many local artistes to join the FiWEH.com network so their music can get maximum exposure, which will position them to earn from markets outside of Jamaica.
“Our music management systems consist of charts, spotlights, live radio, and a digital vault,” James said. “The entities of the management system are all automated and create a very easy environment for promotion. When a song is uploaded to the management system, it will be added to all the site charts, the live radio playlist, the digital vault for download and sales and it will be automatically spotlighted as a featured single. Meet The Artistes In addition to live streaming music, there are also articles on the artistes, music videos, interviews, concerts and images from major events worldwide. As a result, artistes who sign up with the site are being exposed to industry representatives and independent musicians can utilise the site to manage their careers using the online artiste management system. This system allows record labels and managers to maintain multiple artiste profiles using one FiWEH.com Record Label/Management Account.”
