Silly errors cost us

TT U15 coach positive despite loss to Panama

HEAD coach of the TT Under-15 football team Stuart Charles-Fevrier, said silly mistakes cost his team the match against Panama in the TT Football Association Youth Invitational Under-15 Tournament, at the Ato Boldon Stadium, in Couva,on Wednesday, but he saw a number of positives following the defeat.

TT lost a high scoring match 5-4 to Panama in front a lively crowd at the venue.

Charles-Fevrier said playing at home his team would have had a mix of emotions.

“I thought we started a little nervous, but I was not surprised because playing at home for the first time they would have been excited and would have wanted to do so well.

“I thought it would have been possible that they could get a little bit anxious and that was the case for me personally, because in the first half they were not composed enough and because of that we gave away possession easily.”

Fevrier, who thought his team settled down more in the second half, wants his team to limit the errors for the next game.

“We made some silly errors and I think silly errors cost us the game, but all in all I was pleased in the sense that I saw a lot of positives in the game because Panama was a good team, very physical…we were not at our best tonight and we was still able to show that the possibilities in the game could have been better. Going forward I believe those games will help us for the tournment that we have in the next two weeks in Miami.”

TT will compete in the Concacaf Under-15 Championships, which starts early August. “I am not putting no pressure on them … and maybe the fact that we lost this game – we could probably benefit from it a lot.

“It is a preparation tournament (and) obviously we will analyse ourselves and sometimes in losing you can gain more than when you win.”

Fevrier said the defensive mistakes proved costly as his team conceded three goals in five minutes in the second half. “Going forward what is important is to improve, so our next game we need to improve. We cannot concede four goals, we need to improve. We need to give ourselves a better chance to win games.”
