Man’s greed and pursuit of personal wealth created a society where money equal power and the poor continues to be disenfranchised. As a child the phrase “money is the root of all evil” was used as a warning to prevent the pursuit of wealth. As an adult, it is apparent, the phrase is one of the most misquoted phrases that is believed by those ignorant and conditioned to believe money is evil.
Money is any item or verifiable record that is generally accepted as payment for goods and services. Someone who has accumulated enough money to purchase luxurious comfort above that of the common person in a group, city, or society is considered rich. Because of misinformation, money is considered evil, however, it is the “love of money” that is the root of all evil. The love of money leads to human greed, and it allows people to do unspeakable atrocities.
For centuries, man’s obsession with money and their greed caused them to ignore human rights. They commit criminal acts against each other like raping, killing and enslaving human beings in pursuit of power. There are examples of people throughout history who went against their own beliefs in pursuit of money and wealth. Their greed caused the lives of millions of people who died in pointless wars. Most times, it happens in the shadow as proxy wars.
A proxy war is an armed conflict between two states or non-state actors which act on the instigation or on behalf of other parties that are not directly involved in ta conflict. These actors have ulterior motives rooted in money and greed. Those at the center of the conflict is never aware of the motives because it is often disguised as support for freedom. Regardless of the outcome, those pulling the strings will benefit the most. Therefore the lost of human lives does not matter in the pursuit of money & power.
It is a common assumption that humans have evolved due to the accessibility of information. Unfortunately, the age old desire for money & power rooted in greed persists. In the government system , politicians, vote against their constituents interest in favor of policies that are dictated by special interest groups. While running for office, they maligned groups like the NRA and Citizens United, but when elected, they allow them to curry favors for financial gains.
Man’s obsession for wealth and power caused them to do horrible things. Even centuries later we are dealing with the effects of those poor decisions, like free labor through the African Slave Trade or the fight for land ownership on the Gaza Strip and other places across the world. Companies wanting to grow financially offer weapons to both sides in conflicts that killed millions in every war that has been fought throughout history. In our modern society we are seeing this same greed play out in front our eyes. Media companies continue deceiving, misquoting, misinforming and lying to their audience for the sake of higher ratings and to increase advertising revenues.
