With the some parts of the U.S. government shutdown for the last 18 days, the impact of that decision by the governing body has yet to set in.  Right now more than 800, 000 people are impacted by the indecisiveness of the elected officials.  What is even unfortunate is their stance that this is what the people wants.

First the people did not say they wanted a border wall.  It was proposed by Candidate Trump and he also said that Mexico would pay it.  It is difficult comprehend how an unfounded statement could make it ways to the policy table, especially when it will force the people to give up tax revenues to fund a wall they clearly did not know they needed.  In addition, both sides are affirming that their stance is what the American people wants.  Clearly, the voice of the people has been silenced because only pundits and political surrogates are on television affirming what the American wants.  Now, because of that misguided position 800,000 people are furloughed and may not be paid because both sides refused to finalize the proposed funding bill.

According to a report from the New York Times, a growing proportion of Americans are blaming President Donald Trump for the partial government shutdown.  Because of his remarkable refusal to sign the bill without border funding, the government will remain shut and it that will cut off paychecks to federal workers this week.  What is even more remarkable, Republicans mostly support his refusal to approve a budget without taxpayer dollars for the U.S.-Mexico border wall, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.

The national opinion poll, which ran from Jan. 1 to Jan. 7, found that 51 percent of adults believe Trump “deserves most of the blame” for the shutdown, which entered its 18th day on Tuesday. That is up 4 percentage points from a similar poll that ran from Dec. 21 to 25.

Another 32 percent blame congressional Democrats for the shutdown and 7 percent blame congressional Republicans, according to the poll. Those percentages are mostly unchanged from the previous poll.

Illegal border crossing has declined in recent years, however the president insists that a border wall is need to prevent security threats in the region.  A border wall will prevent security threats and illegal immigrations issues that occur from people coming through airports across the country.  The border wall is a small part of the larger issue.

Since the elected officials clearly don’t reflect what the people wants, we would like to take the opportunity to allow the people to share their opinion on the matter.  Please tell us what you think about this government shutdown and where you stand on the border wall by answer some of the questions below:

Who do you blame for the partial government shutdown?

Do you believe the Presidents action to shutdown the government because of border wall funding was justified?

Do you believe putting up a border wall will stop national security threats and illegal immigration?
