Peer 2 peer networks have millions of users and is a goldmine for Advertisers. Customers refuse to pay for music so free downloads could be paid for by the P2P advertisers using the Advertising Model of mechanical royalties. It could somewhat satisify the Labels and the Fans at the same time. As I stated before in an earlier discussion, I use to be a fan of Morpheous and Kazaa, but after realizing I was collecting and archiving music from struggling artists, I decided to quit and focus on developing a concept that would combat this problem. I'm not saying that I am against P2P's, but I don't believe people should have access to music like they do. It should be a controlled system. Music on a hold has become very hard to market, because it is all over the place. There's currently no control of how music flows through the marketplace and it is a complete cluster. To fix this issue, we should not look to the future but to the past, as I stated above about peer to peer network. Music should become what cable has been for has long as we can remember, accessible, paid by advertisers, sponsors and by paid subscriptions. This model not only will guarentee revenues for the music owners, it will satisfy the listening pleasure of it's fans. I believe we should adapt the concept of paying for a music service through our ISP, which will give fans the access to music they love. Since there may never be a final solution on free access to music, this will be the only option. ISP's will charge it's members a music subscription fee along with their regular cable charges which will be allotted to the labels and they can pay the rightholders. That method will combat the use of P2P and losses rightholders accumulate yearly. The option of purchase will still exist through online retailers because people still need to be able to do direct purchase and downloads of new releases. This service will force all legitimate digital retailer to join a "so-called" music publishing group that collectively collects royalties and distribute it to right holders. That is my suggestion, however, there may be glitches that may have be worked out, however, it is a start.
