Antiguan dancehall artiste Fucha Kid recently lost one of his cousins in a freak accident that happened in Antigua. Fucha Kid recently recorded the song Anti-Shock which features Vybz Kartel. The song was produced by Chimney Records.
. The results from Trinidad Carnival are in, and a very pregnant Fay Ann Lyons has been crowned the 2009 Soca Monarch Queen. She has become the first person in the history of Trinidad Carnival to compete the triple crown that of Power Soca Monarch, Groovy Soca Monarch and Road March. Destra's song Bachannal finished second in the Soca Monarch competition, while Machel Montano's Wild Antz came in third.
. Over in the Virgin Islands, singer Madda Nile holds firm at number one on the reggae charts with the track Like to See. It's her second number one song in that country in just over a year. Formerly known as Empress Chunks, Mada Nile was born in St Croix. She made her recording debut in 2000 with the track Sorry No More.
. The Tortola-born jazz singer Jon Lucien died recently of respiratory failure and other complications from a scheduled surgery. He was 65. Lucien is best known for his melding of jazz, R&B, Caribbean rhythms and Brazilian music that was marketed as the twin formats of "quiet storm" and "smooth jazz". In 1970 he released his first recording I Am Now on the RCA label. This was followed by 17 more albums under various labels.
